Amazon Flex only hires new delivery drivers when there is an increase in demand that they can’t handle.
Not only do they have a long list of Amazon Flex applicants, but they also send a lot of their package delivery routes to designated Delivery Service Partners.
These partners have the same jobs as Amazon Flex drivers, but they do not work with the flexibility of Amazon Flex. They have set schedules, set hourly pay, they don’t drive their own vehicles and they may receive some benefits from the third party company that contracts their work out to Amazon.
A lot of delivery drivers opt to deliver with Amazon Flex instead of working with a Delivery Service Partner because they enjoy the flexibility of schedule, ability to receive tips (on certain blocks) and the fact that they get to be their own boss.
